CALL OF THE AMERICAN WILD: A TENDERFOOT’S ESCAPE TO ALASKAby: Guy Grieve
Grieve’s dream of escaping it all to live in remote Alaska suddenly came true, though isolated & with only basic equipment. Packed with adventure, humor, & insight, a gripping story of an ordinary man learning the ways of the wild. 25 color photos; 6×9 inches, 400 pgs.
A man, an axe, and a dog named Fuzzy… let the adventure begin.
Trapped in a job he hated and up to his neck in debt, Guy Grieve’s life was going nowhere. But with a stroke of luck, his life changed. Miles from the nearest human being and armed with only the most basic equipment, Guy built a log cabin from scratch and began carving a life for himself through fishing, hunting, and diligently avoiding bears.
“Guy Grieve jacked in his desk job to spend a year alone in the Alaskan wilderness. With only moose, bears, and wolves for company, he survived freezing temperatures, built a log cabin, learned to hunt and handle a dog team, and had several brushes with death.”
“Captures Grieve’s maverick adventure, and has an energy and pace to it, a compelling, rushing quality, like a dog sled chasing through the snowscape… also has a real flavor of the frontier, told by a man who shoots a hole in his roof for a chimney with his shotgun, and puts a recipe for beaver ribs and pea soup in the end notes. Call of the American Wild may be the perfect present to give your dreamy spouse for Christmas, but you risk him stealing out of the house at 2 a.m. with his snowshoes on. One awaits his next adventure with anticipation.”
“A wild adventure”
“Riveting, well-written, amusing, and sometimes deeply affecting.”
