About This Book
Overview

Have A Plan
Before acquiring or enhancing your 10/22, have a plan. Set down the purpose of your rifle or carbine. Are you building
for plinking? For hunting? Three-gun rimfire competition? The same considerations apply for changes or upgrades to your 10/22. It’s fine to build or change a 10/22 “just because.” But, consider the time and money you are going to invest in your 10/22, and if the change is truly meets your needs and
wants. In the Guide we can’t tell you what you should do, but we can show you what you can do!!
The detail and clarity in this sample of the over 395 photos and the comprehensive information found in the text are typical of all the chapters of the Guide:
• Disassembly
• Assembly
• Selecting Enhancements
• Almost 10/22s
• Gallery
• Introduction
• History
• Standard Nomenclature
• Operation
• Ammunition
• Maintenance

This book is the latest volume in the Scott A. Duff Publications’ Guide series. The Ruger 10/22 Complete Owner’s and Assembly Guide is like the other Guides; its purpose is to give the new 10/22 owner a head start towards an in-depth understanding of the history, operation, maintenance, upgrading and use of his or her rifle, while providing the experienced owner knowledge that they don’t yet have, with the intent of giving even the expert new insights into the 10/22.

William Batterman Ruger was a true firearms genius, not just as a designer, but as an innovator of manufacturing processes that allow arms of great quality to be made available at a surprisingly modest cost. Building on the appeal of his original Standard Model pistol, in the early ‘50’s Ruger met the exploding enthusiasm for all things Western with the Ruger Single Six .22 revolver. In 1960 Ruger branched into long arms with the Ruger Deerstalker, the .44 Magnum Carbine that proved a popular woods deer rifle. Then, in 1964, Ruger introduced the 10/22, originally as an understudy and companion for the .44 Magnum carbine. The latter is long gone, but the 10/22 is in its fifth decade of continuous production.

The three patented innovations Bill Ruger and his chief engineer, Harry Sefried put into the 10/22 insured its success via rock-sold function and unprecedented configuration versatility. Over the years, Ruger has introduced a wide panoply of 10/22 variations for the shooter’s pleasure. More significantly, the ease of barrel and stock change made it simple and practical for a shooter to customize and personalize her or his 10/22. The unintended consequence of Ruger and Sefried’s innovative design is a huge aftermarket industry offering 10/22 barrels, stocks, triggers, optical sight rails…ad infinitum. The 10/22 ranks with the AR-15 and M1911 as one of the three top platforms for parts and accessories offerings by suppliers such as Brownells.

The 10/22 has become the most popular .22LR rifle of all time. Well…no; that honor goes to the Marlin Model 60. The Marlin does have four years on the Ruger; the Model 60 was introduced in 1960. Something in excess of eleven million Marlins have been sold, compared to over seven million 10/22s. But, the Marlin’s barrel is a factory-installed item and the stock inletting is a lot more complicated. That’s why you won’t see the vast aftermarket for the Model 60 that the Ruger enjoys. The Framework of This Book You will find a great deal of detail on the history, selection, disassembly, assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, magazines, upgrades and more. You will also gain an understanding of the principles involved in selecting upgrades, magazines, ammunition and more.
